Steel cut oats are also known as Irish oats or Pinhead oats. They are made from oat groats that are chopped into two or three pieces. Steel cut oats are the least processed type of oat cereal and they are traditionally used to make porridge and oat cakes.
Suggested Cooking (serves 4):
- Add 1/4 tsp of salt to 3 cups of water and bring to a boil.
- Add 1 cup of steel cut oats.
- Reduce to low heat.
- Cover and allow to simmer for 10-20 minutes.
- Stir occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes before removing cover and serve.
